Janet Goldner's sculptural installations bring together art and poetry by cutting images and texts into constructed steel sculptures using a welding torch as a drawing instrument. Video and sound have recently become elements in the installations. Since her 1995 ulbright Research Grant to Mali (West Africa), she has been combining images and ideas from Africa and the West. Recent works often take distinctly Malian forms as their point of genesis.
