Two years at Quelinius School, Amsterdam under his uncle, Evert Pieters of Laren

Short Artist Biography
1904: Jack Pieters came to South Africa - Pretoria; could not make a living as an artist so joined Government service; became friendly with Pieter Wenning; the two would paint together at Fountains; much influenced by Wenning's style. Later transferred to Cape Town, Jack Pieters met all the early artists; close friend of Tinus de Jongh. Jack Pieters ultimately settled in Durban; encouraged by Leo Francois; member of National Society of Artists (Pres 1941);
1927 member of Natal Dist Council of South African Institute; art critic to `Natal Mercury' under the nom-de-plume, `Cerulean Blue' (Franicois had been `Vermilion'); Jack Pieters was for many years the only practising artist on Durban Art Gallery Advisory Committee -- introduced the ruling that work by artists on the committee should not be eligible for the collection, thus not represented in the Gallery until late in his career. Painted four of the six views of South African Cricket Fields presented to MCC by South African Cricket Association. Member of South African Society of Artists
